LOUTH LOOKING GOOD AWARDS 2018

The Communities of Termonfeckin, Sandpit and Baltray can be justifiably proud of their performance in this year’s “Louth Looking Good Awards”. There were three awards for Sandpit: Mc Grane’s XL won a “Shop Front Award”, there was an “Endeavour Award” recognising the effort put in by volunteers and a “Gold Award” in the 2018 Louth Litter League “Small Village” section results, with a score of 897 marks or 99.5%. The judges gave an excellent report on Sandpit given its first year in the competition. Overall Impact-”It is unbelievable what you have achieved in a very short timeframe.

The sheer diligence and care you lavished on your village is tangible and we have a feeling that you are going to be a force to be reckoned with in all things Tidy Towns”. The judges also said the success of the work programme in Sandpit left them with little option but to include Sandpit in the prizewinning arena, not something they recall for a first time entrant. This is a tremendous result for Sandpit, congratulations and well done to everyone. In Termonfeckin, there was a “Shop Front Award” for Madden’s Centra, a “Special Merit Award”, 3rd place in the Louth Litter League “Large Village” results but a “Gold Award” nonetheless with a score of 868 marks or 96%. Orchard Villas was awarded 2nd place in Category C: Housing Estates 26-40 Houses while Rathview received the Adjudicators Award for Category D: Housing Estates Over 40 Houses. The judges said they were immediately struck by the effort put in to improving the environmental presentation of Termonfeckin village which has really delivered results and to say they were impressed is somewhat of an understatement. Again congratulations and well done to everyone.

Baltray also featured in this year’s competition with the 19th Pub winning a “Shop Front Award” and the village coming 3rd in the Louth Litter League “Small Village” results thereby securing a “Gold Award” with a score of 880 marks or 98%. The judges said the village of Baltray exhibits a unique charm and it is obvious that the Tidy Towns Group is delivering on its vision for the development and presentation of the area. Again congratulations and well done to all in Baltray.

TERMONFECKIN MACRA

Termonfeckin Macra na Feirme recently celebrated its 70th Anniversary with a celebration night in Drumshallon Forge. Termonfeckin Macra was founded in 1948 and over the last 70 years has been very active with a hugely diverse range of activities.

During that time, the Club has managed to win 20 National Titles and hopefully there will be more. Some members also rose up through the ranks by filling positions at National level such as National Chairman, National Secretary and more recently, National President. A little Commemoration Booklet was produced for the occasion which no doubt brought back many memories. Congratulations to the Club on all the achievements. New members are most welcome as always.

If you are interested in learning more about Termonfeckin Macra, simply like and contact the Macra Tearmann Feichin facebook page or contact Aoife on 087-6262197.
