St Mary’s student getting the chop for charity

- By HUBERT MURPHY

ONE young student from St Mary’s DS will do his bit for a magnificent cause this Friday, December 7th.

Jack Bogue, a 6th Year student is getting his head shaved in the school assembly area in aid of Tredagh Lodge Day Care Centre which is an Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland Care service.

Jack chose the Alzheimer’s society as his granny who died four years ago had Alzheimer’s, so he has first hand experience of the disease and the vital work the society and centres like Tredagh Lodge do. They offer a wide range of activities including reminiscence therapy, music sessions, gentle exercises, arts and crafts and personal care.

Jack is happy to be raising funds and awareness for such a worthy cause and also excited as he has had long hair for seven years so it’s going to be a big change.

He has been getting sponsorship via a sponsorship card and additionally St. Mary’s is having a non-uniform day on December 7th in aid of this too, where students will donate €2 each.

All of the 6th years will be attending the headshave, but students from all other years can buy tickets for €1 each to enter a draw to attend it. One draw will take place per class and tickets can be bought in school in the assembly area on 5th and 6th December during lunch.

Jack would also like to thank Southgate Barbers who are very kindly giving their time and expertise for free for the afternoon
