PARKING 60 CENT UNTIL JANUARY 7

-

LOUTH County Council is giving shoppers in Drogheda a Christmas bonus - dropping the price of car parking to 60c per hour.

The new rates came into effect last Saturday and will be in operation until January 7, 2019.

As part of the incentive to encourage people to “Shop Local” over the Christmas period, Pay Parking in the urban area of Drogheda will be reduced to 0.60c per hour from 1st December 2018 to 7th January 2019,’ the council explained in a statement.

‘ This reduction will apply to both on-street parking and the car parks managed by Louth County Council and will be clearly displayed on the pay parking machines,’ they added.

The move comes after a difficult year in terms of pay parking.

There was no payment for up to four months earlier in the year after it was found that the bylaws were unsatisfactory.

Then, as part of further proposals, it was agreed that pay parking be reduced to €1.00 per hour and that residents only parking be brought in on a section of the Windmill Road. A new pricing system was also agreed for areas like Boyle O’Reilly in the hospital area.

However, there has been a delay in implementing those changes.
