Moore slams Port Access Route snub
FIANNA Fáil’s South Louth East Meath PRO Anthony Moore has slammed the government over its refusal to provide funding for the Port Access Northern Cross Route in its latest distribution of development funds.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy announced that 88 projects nationwide were to be allocated a total of €100 million under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF). No funding was allocated to Louth County Council to build the cross-route.
Moore said “The Port Access Northern Cross Route is crucial to Drogheda’s future development and it beggars belief that the government has not approved funds for it on this occasion after so many false starts. The costs of this inaction will be borne by the people of Drogheda, as heavy good vehicles continue to clog our neighbourhoods and inability to develop the northern part of Drogheda prevents much-needed housing being built and stymies the growth of our local economy”.
“The government’s shameful attitude is in stark contrast to that of our own leader, Micheál Martin, who clearly saw Drogheda’s potential when I met with him recently to discuss the future development of our town. We in Fianna Fáil will keep pushing to get the funding we need for the cross-route. If government and their representatives are not prepared to listen and act accordingly to ensure Drogheda’s future prosperity, then it’s time they made way for people who will”.
