Run of the Coun­try raises €10,250 for Malta Ser­vices

THE 9th Run Of The Coun­try Char­ity Mo­tor­cy­cle Tour, has re­cently raised €10,250 for Malta Ser­vices, a lo­cal ser­vice provider for adults with in­tel­lec­tual dis­abil­i­ties based in the heart of the Drogheda com­mu­nity.

The Run Of The Coun­try Char­ity Mo­tor­cy­cle Tour has been revving up and rais­ing funds since 2010 with a to­tal of €87,778 raised to date, which is just fan­tas­tic. All the monies raised is used in Drogheda, sup­port­ing peo­ple with var­ied abil­i­ties to achieve their goals and wishes.

This year, there were per­fect con­di­tions for rid­ing mo­tor­cy­cles. Af­ter 250 scenic miles in the sad­dle the mo­tor­cy­cle rid­ers ar­rived at their fi­nal des­ti­na­tion in Ca­van. They jour­neyed through the ex­otic towns of Sher­cock, Bawn­boy, Kin­lough, to view the At­lantic Ocean in Bun­do­ran. The re­turn leg was through Sligo and Black­lion. Colm Byrne from Dun­dalk said “Ten out of ten to who­ever picked those roads for mo­tor­cy­cling”.

“When I started this up nine years ago it was for one trip. It’s hard to be­lieve how suc­cess­ful this has been. All the spon­sors, rid­ers and vol­un­teers have made real dif­fer­ences to peo­ples lives in this com­mu­nity. It’s a good news story” re­flected Michael McCormick, key or­gan­iser of the Run of the Coun­try.

Malta Ser­vices Drogheda, sup­port over 100 adults to live a life of their choos­ing by pro­vid­ing ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing, in­for­ma­tion and ad­vice and prac­ti­cal as­sis­tance to sup­port them to achieve their goals.

John Igoe, Act­ing Ser­vice Di­rec­tor for Malta Ser­vices ex­pressed “sin­cere thanks to Michael McCormick his wife Au­drey Jack­son and all the par­tic­i­pants of the Run of the Coun­try 2018. Malta Ser­vices are de­lighted to be cho­sen once more to ben­e­fit from this ex­cel­lent event”.

Kennedy Mo­tor­cy­cles are one of the prin­ci­pal spon­sors of The Run Of The Coun­try. Jimmy Kennedy said “This was the best one so far, the route, the weather and the ac­com­mo­da­tion all were su­per. Great to be in­volved with such a cham­pion event.”

Height for Hire is also a prin­ci­pal spon­sor. Harry McAr­dle said “I wish I was back on mo­tor­cy­cles again to en­joy the craic with the bik­ers. It’s a great re­turn for my seed spon­sor­ship to be con­verted to so much money for Malta Ser­vices Drogheda”

Tuites Butch­ers sup­ply the rash­ers, sausages and pud­dings for the hearty cooked break­fast which the rid­ers en­joy in Malta Ser­vices Drogheda be­fore they de­part on the days run. Rid­ers have no idea where their des­ti­na­tion will be. This is only re­vealed at the 3rd check point about 130 miles into the jour­ney.

Funds raised from this event will go di­rectly to­wards as­sist­ing peo­ple to work to­wards and achieve spe­cific per­sonal goals.
