Run of the Country raises €10,250 for Malta Services
THE 9th Run Of The Country Charity Motorcycle Tour, has recently raised €10,250 for Malta Services, a local service provider for adults with intellectual disabilities based in the heart of the Drogheda community.
The Run Of The Country Charity Motorcycle Tour has been revving up and raising funds since 2010 with a total of €87,778 raised to date, which is just fantastic. All the monies raised is used in Drogheda, supporting people with varied abilities to achieve their goals and wishes.
This year, there were perfect conditions for riding motorcycles. After 250 scenic miles in the saddle the motorcycle riders arrived at their final destination in Cavan. They journeyed through the exotic towns of Shercock, Bawnboy, Kinlough, to view the Atlantic Ocean in Bundoran. The return leg was through Sligo and Blacklion. Colm Byrne from Dundalk said “Ten out of ten to whoever picked those roads for motorcycling”.
“When I started this up nine years ago it was for one trip. It’s hard to believe how successful this has been. All the sponsors, riders and volunteers have made real differences to peoples lives in this community. It’s a good news story” reflected Michael McCormick, key organiser of the Run of the Country.
Malta Services Drogheda, support over 100 adults to live a life of their choosing by providing education and training, information and advice and practical assistance to support them to achieve their goals.
John Igoe, Acting Service Director for Malta Services expressed “sincere thanks to Michael McCormick his wife Audrey Jackson and all the participants of the Run of the Country 2018. Malta Services are delighted to be chosen once more to benefit from this excellent event”.
Kennedy Motorcycles are one of the principal sponsors of The Run Of The Country. Jimmy Kennedy said “This was the best one so far, the route, the weather and the accommodation all were super. Great to be involved with such a champion event.”
Height for Hire is also a principal sponsor. Harry McArdle said “I wish I was back on motorcycles again to enjoy the craic with the bikers. It’s a great return for my seed sponsorship to be converted to so much money for Malta Services Drogheda”
Tuites Butchers supply the rashers, sausages and puddings for the hearty cooked breakfast which the riders enjoy in Malta Services Drogheda before they depart on the days run. Riders have no idea where their destination will be. This is only revealed at the 3rd check point about 130 miles into the journey.
Funds raised from this event will go directly towards assisting people to work towards and achieve specific personal goals. Sincere thanks to all the event sponsors including: Height for Hire, Kennedy Motor Cycles, Tuites Butchers, TRM, BWG The Value Centre, Centra McDonnells, Wincanton, Bru, Dunnes Stores, Marks & Spencers, Michael Briscoe Electric, Frank Gogarty, Woodies, Scholars Townhouse, Lidl, The Blackbull, Eurospar Morans and Bike World.
