James Byrne seeking council seat in 2019

-

FIANNA Fáil will hold their candidate selection convention for the Drogheda Urban Local Electoral Area on Thursday night in Barlow House.

The National Constituencies Committee has directed that two candidates be selected at the convention to contest the local elections for Louth County Council next May.

Anthony Moore and James Byrne, son of Councillor Tommy Byrne and brother of Meath East T.D. Thomas Byrne, are the names going forward.

Byrne is a teacher in the Sacred Heart Secondary School, working in the heart of the community for the past 15 years, having initially qualified as a chartered accountant with EY Ireland. He is looking to build on the 30 years of political service his father Tommy has given in local politics.

Byrne, former Chairperson of the South Louth/East Meath FF Comhairle Ceanntar, said: ‘I look forward to knocking on every door and engaging with the electorate in the weeks and months ahead. I’m ready for the challenge and believe I have the leadership qualities to drive Drogheda forward.

‘I am motivated by the need to address the many issues affecting the town and will work constructively with others to this end. I am not interested in cheap political point scoring, only to serve the best interests of the people of Drogheda”.
