MANY trib­utes were paid to Noel Con­nolly at our an­nual gen­eral meet­ing. Noel stood down as chair­man hav­ing been in the post for five years. Dur­ing his time the club com­peted at the very top, win­ning pro­mo­tion from in­ter­me­di­ate and reach­ing the se­nior fi­nal.

Plans were also put in place for im­prove­ments to Pairc na nGaeil, and it was on the day be­fore the meet­ing that work be­gan on the project which is ex­pected to be com­pleted be­fore the begin­ning of next sea­son.

Noel thanked all who had helped and sup­ported him since he suc­ceeded Niall Lam­bert. He urged mem­bers to get in­volved in the dif­fer­ent projects the club had in mind for the new sea­son, and to help out in what­ever way they can.

Tak­ing over as chair­man is Dick O’Cal­laghan, who was in the post twice in pre­vi­ous years, the first time in the 1980s.

The meet­ing was one of the best at­tended in re­cent years, with many con­tri­bu­tions from the floor. Trea­surer, Alan Martin, pre­sented a very de­tailed re­port, which showed the club to be in a sound fi­nan­cial po­si­tion.

The club ex­tends is sym­pa­thy to the fam­ily of the late Patrick Hughes, Bothar na Feirme, Black. Paddy, for­merly from Hughes’ Park, was closely as­so­ci­ated with the club in his youth.


THE club held the AGM in the clu­b­rooms on Mon­day 26 Novem­ber and there was a great turn out.

Barry McDer­mott chaired the meet­ing and be­gan by wel­com­ing ev­ery­one and paus­ing for a mo­ments re­flec­tion to re­mem­ber re­cently de­ceased mem­bers and fam­ily mem­bers.

The meet­ing in­cluded re­ports from the chaiman, sec­re­tary and trea­surer and ro­bust dis­cus­sions on the health of the club and high­light­ing re­cent suc­cess with the first team. There was a lengthy dis­cus­sion on the chal­lenges be­ing faced by all clubs with re­gard to de­clin­ing youth num­bers.

All present at the AGM agreed that there was a huge amount of ac­tiv­i­ties hap­pen­ing in the club and that it was a great en­dorse­ment of the work been done by all our vol­un­teers. The club could look ahead with op­ti­mism to the com­ing year and it is hoped all mem­bers, play­ers and sup­port­ers will con­tinue to get be­hind the club as we strive to fur­ther de­velop our fa­cil­i­ties and grow our club.

County Board Chair­man Des Halpenny was asked to ad­dress the meet­ing and spoke of the ex­cit­ing times ahead for the club with the de­vel­op­ment of the new fa­cil­i­ties at Bally­bailie which will be a fan­tas­tic ad­di­tion to the club and to the en­tire lo­cal com­mu­nity. He also spoke of the hon­our for the club in been se­lected from over 2500 clubs na­tion­wide to par­tic­i­pate in the GAA’s Healthy Club Project which strives to put the club at the ‘Heart of the Com­mu­nity’.

The in­com­ing Se­nior team Man­age­ment of Ed­die Coyle and Gerry Gal­lagher and se­lec­tors were wished all the best for 2019
