Sparks recover from sluggish start to sink Rockets

-

DESPITE a sluggish start Drogheda Sparks notched up their sixth win in eight outings at home to Rockets.

In a lacklustre first quarter the two teams managed just 11 points between them but that all changed when Sparks coach Gar Mac Criosta switched to a pressing defence to raise the pace of the game.

The scores began to follow as a result and at half time the hosts led by just a score, 16-14.

But it was from the half time break that Sparks showed more of their true form. Kate Kelly was in flying form and scored regularly on drives to the basket.

Team captain Ava Prendergast ran the offence and contributed her share of the scoring.

Gretta McEvoy and Nicola Busa were out ahead on fast break basketball along with Zeina Ahmed.Going into the final quarter Sparks had pushed their lead up to 8 points and they broke the game open in the fourth quarter.

Elle Riggs nailed a couple of shots and with Ome Esajabors finishing under the basket on put backs, Sparks ran out comfortable 47-30 winners against a hard working Rockets team.

On Sunday Sparks travel to Cavan town to take on Cavan Lakers . Tip off there is 1.15pm.
