HURLING WIN FOR ST. COLMCILLES

Congrats to the eight St Colmcilles lads who tasted victory in the Meath Hurling U/15 Division 3 Final recently. They have been there since they began in the U/8 and have worked very hard over the years to finally be in the winners enclosure. Damien O’Brien commenced his hurling odyssey at u/8 and encouraged others along the way. They and Damien have stuck with it through thick and thin, encouraged others to join their merry band along the way and got their deserved reward with their team mates from both St Colmcilles and St Patrick’s. Whatever happens in the future these boys are the hurling pioneers from St Colmcilles of the modern era.

BREDA MAGUIRE R.I.P.

The death took place of Breda Maguire (nee Walsh) Weisford from Mornington recently. She passed away quietly in Blackrock clinic. She had just celebrated her eighty-fifth birthday. Breda was born in Dublin on Nov 7th 1933. She was one of eight children in the household in Clontarf Dublin. She married Joe Maguire also from Dublin in June 1962. They lived in Raheney then in Wexford.

Loved and cherished by her husband Joe, daughter Susan, sons David, Brian, and Andrew and she spoiled her grandchildren Emma, Maebh, and Bridgette in America, and Conor and Saoirse in Galway. She loved her daughter in law Denise and Breda called them her “Galway family”.

Breda loved travelling, especially to Italy and Portugal. She was also a very religious lady. Her faith was quite deep which was very important to her. She did two hours adoration weekly in Mornington church and also in St Mary’s James street. Breda was also a regular visitor to Fatima and Knock. She was in her element on these occasions. She also loved music, especially opera, La Boheme and Faust were her favourites.

She left this life peacefully on Nov 10th on the stroke of the Angelus at 12 o’clock. A fitting time to go, if one has to go. The name of the house where the family reside is called “Weisford” after Wexford where they had great memories.

Breda was an out and out family woman. On the odd occasion that I would be in the Maguire household Breda would be “clucking” like a mother hen who was experiencing the pinnacle of contentment in the midst of her family. She was a woman who loved everyone. There wasn’t a negative bone in her body. If the total population of the world had a tiny amount of Breda’s love for mankind there would never be any wars. May Breda’s gentle soul rest in peace.
