CARMEL Freeman, founder member of Drogheda Hospice Homecare Foundation, has been made Honorary President of the Foundation and was presented with a framed certificate and flowers at a special night in the Westcourt last week.
Carmel started the Hospice movement in Drogheda almost 25 years ago and since then has devoted her whole life to raising money and helping patients in any way she can. As an accountant, she did the books, as a driver she drove patients to Dublin for treatment and was always a listening ear for their concerns and worries. She co-ordinated the driver service, matching patients with available drivers to bring them to and from appointments and treatment in a confidential and caring service. She regularly delivered equipment to peoples’ homes.
Carmel has dedicated two decades to assisting in the care of cancer patients in the greater Drogheda area, has always shown wonderful leadership skills and passion for the work she does. She has always been unselfish with her time, has multitasked in various officer roles and is on the Board of Directors.
A wonderful evening was had by all who attended, and the current committee were delighted to be instrumental in bestowing this award on Carmel for her many years of service.
