Time to issue fines over abandoned shopping trolleys

-

CLLR Kenneth Flood has once again called for notices to be issued to local shops and supermarkets over shopping trolleys being dumped.

He said that in recent weeks, he has spotted trolleys abandoned in Scarlet Street and Dominic Street, as well as the usual few that turn up in the River Boyne.

“These can be a danger no matter where they are left, and I think it’s time warnings and fines were issued to the stores again, like they were a few years ago,” said the Sinn Fein councillor.

It is estimated that over 1,000 trolleys have been removed from the river over the past six years.

In the Drogheda Independent in August, Cllr Flood said he received confirmation from the Litter Warden that ten fines had issued on the back of a summer clean up, although over 40 trolleys were removed from the Boyne.
