Samaritans to hold candlelit evening

-

FRIDAY 21st December, the Winter Solstice, will be the shortest day of the year (and the longest night of the year). Last year, several Samaritans branches in Ireland held events to coincide with the date.

This year Drogheda & North East Samaritans are holding a candlelit event on the steps of St. Peter’s on West Street from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Drogheda Museum will be lighting up Millmount green to mark the occasion, to help remind people that they are not alone.

‘We know as it’s the Friday before Christmas, many people will be out socialising after work or late-night shopping, but it would be great to try and make an event of this. I would ask you all, if possible to come along. Bring your family, friends, neighbours, your dog, cat, anyone lol

‘We ask people to please bring a candle with them or why not download a Candle app from the App Store or Google Play. This is hoped to be more of a positive event. To help bring some light to those who need it,’ a spokesperson stated.

Anyone can contact Samaritans any time for free from any phone on 116 123. This number is free to call. Or text 087 260 9090 (standard text rates apply) email jo@samaritans.ie or go to www.samaritans.org to find details of your local branch.
