Gretta’s great scoring boosts Greenhills girls
ALL five Our Lady’s College teams have now qualified for the semi-finals in their respective leagues after the Under-16 Premier Division side easily overcame Maynooth Post Primary in last Thursday’s top-of-the-table clash.
Both teams were unbeaten going into this game and awaiting the winner was the reward of top spot in the league and a more favourable draw in the knockout stages.
Unfortunately for them, Maynooth arrived with only six players due to exam pressures and from the start Our Lady’s College took charge, with Nikola Busa continuing where she left off in her last game, hitting seven points of her team’s 15 in the first quarter.
The Boynesiders extended their lead to 28-19 by the half-time interval, but the real damage was done in the second half, by the end of which Our Lady’s enjoyed a 66-31 cushion.
Maynooth had to be careful with fouls, and this - coupled with them tiring - did not help their cause. Gretta McEvoy was not only controlling things from the point guard spot, but was also a demon in defence, and she finished with a season high of 20 points.
The Under-16 Premier team now join the U-19A, U-19B, U-16B and U-16C teams in semi-finals, with the possibility of four of their teams facing each other in two of those upcoming matches.
OUR LADY’S COLLEGE: Ava Briscoe 12pts; Nikola Busa 15; Zoe Gardiner 8; Ruby Matthews 2; Gretta McEvoy 20; Josephine Ogbanga 2; Abby Rice 3; Ellie Riggs; Ava Russell 4; Abby Strutt.
