Smashing result for local players
THE closure of St Pauls Table Tennis Club in Drogheda left the members with nowhere to play, but they were back in business when the neighbouring Balbriggan club invited them to join up.
It proved to be a blessing in disguise for the combined team - coached by the legendary Tommy Caffrey - as they found themselves in a play-off against St Pat’s of Dublin for the Leinster League title.
Spurred on by a large home crowd, the team made up of Drogheda and Balbriggan players romped to a 7-2 victory in the battle for provincial honours.
