Chase is on for Lourdes funds

-

MORE than 70 children from Boyne AC took part in the club’s annual Christmas Chase sponsored run last Saturday to raise much-needed funds for the Children’s Ward at Drogheda’s Lourdes Hospital.

This event is now in its fourth year, with more than €6,000 donated already which has helped to buy an Airvo humidification system for babies on the ward, a machine that helps children with bronchitis and prevents the need for them to go on ventilators/ inhalers.

With 4,451 children using the ward in some way so far this year, the hospital’s need is now greater than ever and this year’s Chase saw each child complete several laps of the Lourdes Stadium to reach their combined overall target of 200km.

Sponsorship cards and a great raffle on the day, combined with generous sponsorship from local company DCM Learning, has seen this year’s figure pass €1,000 already, with more cards still to be returned.

Despite the showery conditions, the young children and indeed the grown-ups all enjoyed the festivities, with hot dogs supplied by Tuites Butchers, hot chocolate from Esquires and ice-creams from Barbaras Ices - to name but a few of the treats on offer.

However, it was the visit from Santa - who took time to meet and chat with all the children - that was certainly the highlight of the day!
