Bernadette Corrigan is a top telephonist
A DROGHEDA telephonist has scooped the second major award in the recent Telephonist of the Year competition jointly organised by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs and the Post Office Workers Union.
She is Bernadette Corrigan (25), Kilsaran, Castlebelhngham, who was presented with a second prize runner-up in the overall contest and a silver salver as winner of the North East Regional section. Over 180 telephonists from all over the country took part.
Bemadette, who has been a member of the Drogheda exchange for the past six years, says: “I thing they were looking for someone who was friendly and courteous and do an efficient job at the same time.” Did she get many cranky callers? Said Bernadette: ‘Yes, you invariably come across the odd one. When I joined the service first they were inclined to upset me but after a while you take them in your stride.’ March 1983
