UNESCO RECOGNITION

UNESCO’s recognition of the games of Hurling and Camogie is a massive achievement for two of the worlds greatest field sports and also for the GAA who work tirelessly in every parish in the country promoting our National Games. It was encouraging to hear commentators attribute this great achievement to the efforts of the countless Volunteers who work within the GAA family. As was said in this column before, Volunteers are a rare breed, often undervalued and too often taken for granted. The social fabric of Irish society depends on a daily basis on Volunteers, The organs of the State would do well to remember that.
