Drogheda Brass Band keep busy

-

Drogheda Brass Band takes to the stage of The Barbican Centre on Wednesday December 19th at 8pm for its annual Christmas concert, with help this year from the choir of Marymount National School who will help to provide some festive cheer in the run-up to Christmas.

Titled Once Upon A Time, the band will play music based on a story-telling theme, including songs from Disney, as well as a piece on the renowned children’s author Roald Dahl.

With some magical moments and peaceful interludes, the multi-awardwinning band is sure to put on a hit show for all ages under the baton of musical director Michael Maher.

Included in the programme will be some Christmas favourites, while Drogheda Youth Brass, under conductor Anthony Murphy, will also perform on the night, as will the beginners’ class in what will be only their second public performance.

With over 50 in the choir, Marymount National School will delight the audience with their Christmas selection featuring Mary’s Boy Child and Calypso Carol, among others. Led my Ms Branigan and Ms King, the choir has been practicing hard in recent weeks and are excited to take to the stage.

Tickets for the concert are €10 and are available from any band member or at the door on the night. It starts at 8pm sharp so arrive early to get your seat!

The band recently held its internal solo contest at its bandrooms in East Coast Business Park, adjudicated by the renowned principal trumpeter at the RTE Concert Orchestra Shaun Hooke.

A regular visitor to Drogheda, Shaun was impressed by the standard of performers in the three age groups. Sorcha Reilly-Morrison won the U-12 section, Jessica Campbell won the U-15 section and Josh Murphy was the winner in the U-18 section.
