THOSE responsible for the new Tullyallen to Townley Hall woods walk - take a bow!
I know a number of people ventured out on the route over Christmas and the new year and for those that like a brisk, up and down challenge and are not too afraid of heights (there’s a big drop down to the road on the left) then take this on.
It has been developed out of a desire by the local community to make the most of living in one of the most historic places in the country.
And it is great to see the name plate attached to the wall as you enter the walkway - King William’s Glen.
He might be a controversial name in many minds, but King Billy can hardly argue with the population of Tullyallen who have given him his spot in their new project.
He might even like the ‘ As Gaeilge’ line above it, ‘Gleann Ri Liam’.
As more and more people get to know and appreciate the walk, it will become a focal point of a visit to this part of the world for many, including those from across the border.
‘Walking in the footsteps of King Billy’ is surely something the local tourist board can make the most of!
I think a few more B and B’s might have to open in the village.
I see the sign is also up for ‘No Mountain Biking’ and that makes sense.
The route is narrow enough in places and meeting someone on a bike would not be a good option.
There have been quite a few tourist sites developed down the years in the Boyne Valley. This is certainly one of the best I’ve seen.
