The cream of the Drogheda area’s sporting talent will converge on the Westcourt Hotel on Saturday January 26th for the glitzy bash, which is celebrating 30 years.

Newly-retired RTE sports presenter Michael Lyster will be at the helm once again as MC and a great evening’s entertainment is promised, including live music from local band The Enemies and a disco to follow.

The Westcourt will be laying on a fantastic meal as well, of course, but the main focus of the evening will be celebrating local sporting achievements.

All 12 of the monthly winners selected by the Drogheda Independent will receive their awards on the night, before four main awards are handed out.

The latest inductee into the Hall of Fame will be revealed, and then the winners of Team of the Year, Young Sport Star and the overall Drogheda Independent Coca- Cola Sport Star of the Year will be announced. The overall winner will be following in the footsteps of local sporting legends like Gary Kelly, Des Smyth and Shane Horgan.

Coca- Cola are the main sponsors, with the Westcourt Hotel as associate sponsors, and tickets - priced €55 - are available from the Drogheda Independent in Shop Street during office hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. •Readers can vote for their choice of Sport Star of the Year and Team of the Year on Pages 50 and 51 of this week’s paper.
