The count­down be­gins to 30th Sports Awards

TIME is fast run­ning out for sport fans to get their hands on tick­ets for this month’s Drogheda In­de­pen­dent Coca- Cola Sport Star of the Year Awards.

The cream of the Drogheda area’s sport­ing tal­ent will con­verge on the West­court Ho­tel on Satur­day Jan­uary 26th for the glitzy bash, which is cel­e­brat­ing 30 years.

Newly-re­tired RTE sports pre­sen­ter Michael Lys­ter will be at the helm once again as MC and a great evening’s en­ter­tain­ment is promised, in­clud­ing live mu­sic from lo­cal band The Ene­mies and a disco to fol­low.

The West­court will be lay­ing on a fan­tas­tic meal as well, of course, but the main fo­cus of the evening will be cel­e­brat­ing lo­cal sport­ing achieve­ments.

All 12 of the monthly win­ners se­lected by the Drogheda In­de­pen­dent will re­ceive their awards on the night, be­fore four main awards are handed out.

The lat­est in­ductee into the Hall of Fame will be re­vealed, and then the win­ners of Team of the Year, Young Sport Star and the over­all Drogheda In­de­pen­dent Coca- Cola Sport Star of the Year will be an­nounced. The over­all win­ner will be fol­low­ing in the foot­steps of lo­cal sport­ing leg­ends like Gary Kelly, Des Smyth and Shane Hor­gan.

Coca- Cola are the main spon­sors, with the West­court Ho­tel as as­so­ciate spon­sors, and tick­ets - priced €55 - are avail­able from the Drogheda In­de­pen­dent in Shop Street dur­ing of­fice hours on Mon­days, Tues­days, Thurs­days and Fri­days. •Read­ers can vote for their choice of Sport Star of the Year and Team of the Year on Pages 50 and 51 of this week’s pa­per.
