Metallitia to rock the stage at McHugh’s

Drogheda Independent - - NEWS -

ANTICIPATION is mounting as McHugh’s of the Chord Road is delighted to announce that one of Ireland’s legendary tribute acts will be back storming Drogheda’s most illustrious stage at The Barrel venue, this Friday, 11th January.

US rockers ‘Metallica’ may be playing a one-off gig down the road at Slane on Saturday 8th June this year as part of their ‘WorldWhinge Tour’, but local rock gods ‘Metallitia’ have been entertaining their own loyal Drawda fans every festive season now for almost 20 years and this year is no different. Metallitia hail from Drogheda and established a terrific reputation back in the ‘noughties’ when they came from nowhere to become Ireland and Europe’s most highly rated tribute act.

The self-proclaimed local “hard-rock heroes” are ‘Flash’ on vocals and guitar, Richie McScrumpy on lead and endless guitars, Paddy Levins on bass guitar and Jimmy Brennan on drums.

Having traversed the country for several years, playing their awesome and fiery, ‘no prisoners taken’ brand of heavy metal, the band became national heroes when they entered and won RTE’s inaugural Reality Rock Tribute television show, Karl Spain Wants To Rock, run over 5 weeks on RTE 2 TV, back in 2010. This saw them take their place representing Ireland as the headline act for Europe’s top tribute festival Glastonbudget, near Leicester in England.

They also created a little bit of history as the first and, so far, only non-Thin Lizzy tribute act to play the annual ‘Vibe for Philo’ commemorative event in Dublin, staged every year on the 5th of January in memory of the great Phil Lynott.

Tickets are now on sale at the venue and via Ticketstop, so with a great crowd expected, early attendance on the night is strongly advised! www.facebook.com/metallitia
