Our Lady’s teams chasing a schools hat-trick

-

OUR Lady’s College Greenhills will feature in three of the six matches at this Thursday’s Secondary Schools Association Finals in the National Basketball Arena following the Under-16 Premier team’s victory last week.

The Under-19 ‘A’ and Under-16 ‘B’ sides were already safely through and bidding to join them were the Under-16 Premier side who faced Santa Sabina of Sutton at the neutral venue of ALSAA.

After a slow start the first quarter ended four points apiece, with Our Lady’s having converted only two out of 12 shots made.

However, quarter two was much better. Ruby Matthews got their first score, and with Nikola Busa adding two free throws and another basket the Drogheda girls had a useful 14-8 lead at half-time.

The third quarter saw the two sides share the spoils - 10 points apiece - with Abby Rice picking off some nice rebounds and captain Ava Briscoe precise from the floor.

It was still all to play for going into the final quarter, but Our Lady’s saved their best until last, running their fast break with precision. Their defence was key as they kept Santa Sabina to just five points and scored 12 themselves. Busa impressed throughout and finished as top scorer on 12 points and the 3623 scoreline earned them a place in the final where they will hope to repeat their 2nd Year Premier success of 12 months ago. UNDER-16 PREMIER: Ava Briscoe 10pts; Nikola Busa 14; Zoe Gardiner; Ruby Matthews 2; Gretta McEvoy 4; Josephine Ogbanga 2; Abby Rice 6; Ellie Riggs; Ava Russell; Abby Strutt.
