€80,000 boost to this year’s Fleadh Cheoil welcomed
There’s been a broad welcome to the news that €80,000 in funding has been allocated to the upcoming Fleadh Cheoil 2019 in Drogheda, as part of the 2019 Regional Festivals & Participative Events Programme.
Local TD Fergus O’Dowd welcomed the move, saying it was one of the best things to happen Drogheda in years.
“The Fleadh Cheoil last year was a massive success and gave the area a much-needed boost in tourism. The town has never looked so well and the events were managed very professionally, complimented by the wonderful local services and volunteers,” said the Fine Gael Deputy. “It was a huge boost for our local economy, and we hope it will be bigger and better this year considering the positive feedback. The event generating real community spirit and I’m really looking forward to this year’s event.”
He went on to thank the very hard-working committee members for their work to date. Making the announcement, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin TD said it was a welcome start to 2019.
“Not only do festivals and events play an important role in delivering brilliant visitor experiences, they often encourage people to visit areas outside of traditional tourism hotspots and outside of peak times, helping to spread the benefits of tourism to communities throughout Ireland.
