Inviting all couples to Mr & Mrs event for Odie

-

SO, you think you know your other half, but could you answer questions about them in public and still stay friends?

The answer is bound to be yes, when it’s all for a good cause.

The first Mr & Mrs contest to raise money for Odie Wants to Walk takes place in Drogheda in April, and organisers are looking for couple brave enough to take on the challenge of how well you know each other!

“It’s not actually proving that hard to get couples on board, especially as everyone knows it’s only a bit of craic, and it’s such a good charity to raise money for,” says Mary Jane Gaughran, whose idea it was. “It was just meant to be a small night, but it’s really taking off now, and we’re looking at a larger venue and to have a grand final in April.”

For those who may not be familiar with the concept, Mr & Mrs programme was aired in the UK in 1965, with host Derek Batey asking married couples very innocuous questions about each other.

Questions became a bit more probing and saucier in the 2008 revival, but the object is a bit of fun and that is what the local organisers are aiming at.

“It’s not just opened to men and women who are married,” explains Mary Jane. “You can be partners, same sex couples, married, whatever, the only thing is you will need to know each other very well, have a good sense of humour, and maybe not get to easily embarrassed in public, but no one will be taking too seriously, as the aim is to make as much money as possible for Odie.”

Each couple must raise €100 sponsorship, and it’s hoped to attract 20 couples to sign up initially for a semi-final on March 29th in the Westcourt Hotel, which will then be whittled down to six couples for the grand finale in April.

“We’ll be holding the final in the Crescent Concert Hall on April 13th, with tickets priced just €10,” she explains. “It’ll have the booth and paddles the same at the tv show, and Dawn Finnegan and Clive Fitzpatrick will be hosting it, so there’ll be a great bit of banter, with Jenny Fagan producing too, so it’ll be a great night.”

So, if you fancy being Mr & Mrs, Mr & Mr, or Ms & Ms to have a bit of fun and raise money so Odie O’Brien can walk, get in touch through the Mr&Mrs Drogheda facebook page or phone Mary Jane on 089 4261758.
