CLOVERHILL

THE fact that the overall 1-2-3 in each of the 4 handicap categories of the Eclectic League are still up for grabs as we head into the sixth and last week of play shows how good, competitive and enjoyable this competition has proven for the members. No doubt that there will be a few sneaky rounds fitted in early in the week in this repeater competition with twilight play the order of the day come the final day on Sunday.

Section One (2-9) is the only one in which there is a sizable lead as Colin McParland (8) 37 nett is 3 shots clear of both Daniel Hughes (5) and Conor Walker (9) with Jamie Duffy (4), Justin Byrne (8) and Steve O Hara (9) next all on 42.

Section Two (10-12) is very closely contested with 3 shots covering 11 players. Joint leaders with a nett 37 are Christopher Reel (11) and James Carragher (12) with Damien Reilly (11) & Fintan McAlleenan (11) a shot further behind and in pursuit on nett 39’s are Ed Hughes (11), Frank Ryan (11) and John Kelly (12)

Section Three (13-16) has new joint leaders in Pete McCreesh (15) and last years overall winner Martin Gill (16) on nett 36, who have knocked long time table topper Seamus McCoy (15) off top spot into joint second with Cathal Hughes (16) a shot in arrears with James Coburn (13) and Noel McParland (16) back in joint third with a nett 39.

Section Four (17-22) houses the two lowest nett scores in the competition with Graham Johnston (19) one shot ahead of Martin Holywood (19) with a nett 34. Noel Magill (17) and Brendan O Rourke (19) are joint third with a nett 36.

No Raymie Flynn on Sunday morning too busy celebrating the “Big 50” Happy birthday from all at Cloverhill.

The Seniors Thursday morning sweep would have brought some slagging on the way back to Dundalk with back seat passenger Charlie McShane lording it over taxi driver Tom Mulholland after beating him into second place. Charlie won the 14 hole competition with 34 points from regular playing partner and swap around driver Tom. Tom edged a 3 way tie with Frank Ryan & Brendan Hughes to take the runner-up spot.

Next Thursday is the opening round of the Seniors Spring League with play commencing at 10am.
