BATTLE OF WITS IN QUIZ
HEADS were scratched, brains were teased, and memories were tested last week, as 20 local primary schools from Drogheda, Bettystown, Dunleer and Trim battled it out in the first stage of the nationwide 2019 Credit union School’s Quiz competition.
Held in Drogheda Institute of Further Education on Friday February 1st, it certainly was a nail-biting night!
Exciting is not the word, with the hall of DIFE packed with 160 extremely energetic, excited children. The talent every year continues to be incredible with children from as young as the age of eight flying their way through questions in each round that Quiz Master Declan Collins was calling out.
“It is so wonderful to see how gifted and talented all these children are that have participated here with us tonight” commented Credit Union Chairperson Geraldine Gilsenan. “It’s a credit to their teachers and schools in preparing and organising their teams to be with us on the night, and we thank them all for their participation in what is a real, Battle till the End”.
In competition A, Realt Na Mara Boys from Donacarney in Co. Meath certainly came in fighting form in hope to take the lead and take the first place title home with them. After 10 tough rounds of general knowledge questions and a close gap between St Mary’s Parish Primary Drogheda and themselves closed somewhat but Realt Na Mara managed to stay that small step ahead taking 1st Prize. Second was taken by St Mary’s Parish Primary and 3rd was shared between Realt Na Mara Girls Donnacarney, Whitecross Julianstown and Presentation Primary.
In competition B it was equally intense and the score board was again very close. St Peters managed to pull out all the stops and were clear winners of 1st prize with a tie breaker round between Whitecross and Scoil Aonghusa for 2nd place.
Following the tie breaker with only one point in the difference Scoil Aonghusa won 2nd place with Whitecross coming 3rd.
A massive Congratulations to Realt Na Mara Boys for wining 1st place in Competition A & St Peters for coming 1st in Competition B. Both the 1st and 2nd places of each group will now go on to represent the Chapter in March.
