Local ‘squats’ are being identified
LOUTH County Council are working with the HSE to establish details on squats in the Drogheda area.
Although confirming that a rough sleeper count had not taken place as yet, Director of Services Paddy Donnelly informed councillors in Drogheda that they had engaged with rough sleepers and two had been offered beds in a location. However, there had been a lack of engagement by others. ‘We have done work to help the situation,’ he told Cllr Joanna Byrne who raised the matter.
Cllr Frank Godfrey said he knew of a man who was sleeping in a van for two and a half years and water was dripping on his mattress.
