Prodigy Sons return for major Ella fundraiser

-

The Prodigy Sons will return for the first time in nearly 25 years to do a special performance in aid of “Team Ella”.

Formed by four Drogheda students; Keith Shortt, Wayne Wright, Gordon Hatch and Gary Fagan, The Prodigy Sons first came to local fame in the early 90s when they performed a tribute act to The Prodigy at student discos around the town.

The lads have got together again to perform a one off gig on Saturday, 2nd March in the Crescent Concert Hall Drogheda in aid of local girl Ella Hewitt (4), who was diagnosed with Bilateral Wilms Tumor at just four-months-old.

The condition forced Ella to have both her kidneys removed and she spent a year on peritoneal dialysis for 12 hours a day.

She takes over 10 medications a day to cover some of the functions of the kidney and is restricted in her daily fluid intake along with a very limited diet.

Ella is on a program called the

‘ beads of courage’, which gives children a bead for every invasive procedure such as operations, chemotherapy etc. Ella has received over 1,200 beads in her first four years of her life.

Her parents, Sam and Andy, are doing all that they can to get Ella onto the transplant list for a live donor as she is now two years post chemotherapy as the regulations state.

The money raised from the event will go towards helping Ella and her family with the increasing and consistent monetary cost that comes with maintaining her treatment.

Gracing the stage of Greenhills and No Name student discos on numerous occasions, The Prodigy Sons were highly regarded locally before exam pressures forced them to take a break, which lasted until now!

“We as a band we are both delighted and proud to help in any way to try to relieve the stress and strain this family already endures and we hope to get a big crowd to support this great cause on the night. We are also delighted that another great tribute act Daft Punk’d will be playing support on the night so we think not only will it be a great night but it is also great value for money,” a spokesperson for The Prodigy Sons said.
