EILEEN SAYS FAREWELL

RETIREMENT AFTER 40 YEARS WORKING WITH DROGHEDA CREDIT UNION

A special celebration was held recently to give a good send-off to one of the Drogheda Credit Union’s longest serving staff members.

Family, friends and colleagues of Eileen Keogh surprised her with a party in the Grey Goose, to mark her departure after 40 years with the local branch.

The former manager has taken early retirement and plans to spend her time playing tennis, travelling and catching up with former colleagues, many of whom attended the party.

“It was a really lovely night, and I love the location – there was a woman on the piano who started playing ‘Come on Eileen’ the minute I walked in, and that’s when I saw so many of my colleagues, past and present, and I knew something was up,” she explained.

“All my ex-managers were there, and my best friend Geraldine Eustace who I started with 40 years ago, with the two organisers Linda (Sullivan) and Jenny (Martin) plus there was s a giant cake with a tennis court on it, and me holding a tennis racket, as they all know what a big fan I am!”

Eileen started in the Credit Union in Palace Street in September 1979, after a short spell in Garvey’s Cash and Carry.

She worked her way quickly through the ranks and has been manager for 20 years.

“It has been an enormous pleasure and a great privilege to have served members of the Drogheda Credit Union for the past 40 years and I really enjoyed my time there,” she says.

“I would like to thank all the members for their continued support and loyalty to the credit union over the past 50 years.” ”

She says she would like to especially thank the board and committee members both past and present for their guidance during her career, as well as a huge thanks to the staff both past and present, for their hard work and dedication.

“I have made some great life-long friends during my time there and am looking forward to spending more time with them now that I am free,” she adds.

“I am planning on travelling a lot, with Spain, Portugal, Vietnam and Cambodia already booked, so I will have a busy few years!”
