Bell fears overlack of retained firefighters

-

Councillor Paul Bell has again expressed his deepest concerns at the continuing failure of Louth County Council to retain and recruit Retained Firefighters in Drogheda Station and has called for a meeting with Council Executives to discuss the issues surrounding this ongoing difficulty.

“Retained Firefighters are trained professionals and are necessary in the support of the full time Fire Service as back up in many of the serious call outs which our emergency services respond too. I have for over a year been raising this issue in response to concerns which I have about the ability which our local Fire Service has in being able to have an immediate full turn out to emergency calls where additional resources are required”. Said Bell

He says there was a recent recruitment competition whereby only four applicants sought to compete for several available vacancies which require urgent filling.

‘It seems that none of the posts have been filled from this competition,’ he states.
