Works to start at Alverno shortly

- By HUBERT MURPHY

PLANS for works in the Alverno Court estate in Laytown are well advanced with the hope that contracts for works will be issued by the council in the next two months.

The news was revealed at last week’s area council meeting after Cllr Sharon Keogan said it was in poor condition. She also called for efforts to improve Alverno Heights.

Council officials confirmed that funding was in place for Alverno Court and it was an ‘ongoing process’ as surveys had already been carried out to prepare for works

With Alverno Heights, there were two scenarios. Maintenance on houses were continuing as part of the council programme.

They were also putting forward a wider scheme.

‘We want to get Alverno Court up and running first of all and then look at capital funding for the refurbishment of the Heights,’ the official added.

Director of Finance Fiona Lawless said the Chief Executive had indicated that the council would make funding available to make sure works were carried out, along with departmental funds. ‘We will fund it if necessary,’ she revealed.

Cllr Sharon Tolan said she was delighted to see that Alverno Court works were almost ready to go as some of the houses empty and people were waiting to move in especially to the bungalows
