Dara gets the job Dunne for Gers

-

ST BRIDES 0-8

GERALDINES got their first season under new manager Eamon Dunne off to a winning start with this local derby win with a goal from a Dara Hamill penalty helping them come out on top.

The Gers began well and had points on the board through Paddy Geoghegan, Hamill and Josh Arrowsmith before the Brides got off the mark.

The Knockbridge men cut the gap to a point entering the closing stages of the half but once again it was Hamill who provided the response with two late points to see his side lead by 0-6 to 0-4 at half time.

The Gers then took a firm grip on the game at the start of the second half when Hamill scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to see his side move five points clear.

The Brides rarely looked capable of bridging that gap and despite adding four points to their tally, Declan McCoy’s charges saw the hosts hold out comfortably for victory. DREADNOTS ST PATRICKS 3-13 0-7

DREADNOTS got their 2019 campaign off to an encouraging start when they easily brushed off the challenge of St Patricks in Clogherhead on Saturday night.

The hosts built the foundations for success on a strong first half display in which Peter Kirwan and Carl Monaghan found the net, before a third goal from Richard Kirwan after the restart sealed a comfortable win.

With Jay Hughes in fine scoring form, the Dreadnots took a grip on the game in the opening quarter and had three points on the board before the Pats replied through Daragh Lafferty and Aidan McCann to cut the gap to 0-3 to 0-2.

However, the Clogher side then hit four unanswered points before Peter Kirwan lobbed the keeper to score the first goal on 14 minutes. His side continued to dominate and just before the short whistle, Carl Monaghan got in for a second goal to make it 2-11 to 0-3 at the break.

There was no way back for the Lordship side in the second half as Richard Kirwan’s goal on 37 minutes put the game beyond any lingering doubt.
