Corsi at the double for Town

CORDUFF DROGHEDA TOWN 0 2

DROGHEDA Town’s impressive turnaround in fortunes continued last Friday night when they made it four wins and four clean sheets on the bounce in competitive games with a comfortable away win over Corduff.

A crazy week of three games in four days began with a 3-0 home victory over Newlands/Castle Park in the Polikoff Cup, with Jordan Kelly helping himself to a hat-trick.

Then it was back to DIFE on Wednesday for a friendly against Drogheda United - that ended in a 6-3 defeat - and so there were tired legs and a few injuries as Robbie Horgan’s men headed to face Corduff on Friday evening.

Despite their lowly position Corduff couldn’t be under-estimated - they had put six goals past promotion contenders Ardmore in their previous home game - and they started the game on the front foot.

Crucially, though, Town keeper Lee McGuinness made three excellent saves in quick succession before Michele Corsi popped up with the opening goal for Town, running onto an Andy Hickey pass before finishing in style.

Marty Walsh had passed up a couple of opportunities to put the Drogheda men ahead before that, but the away side had to settle for a 1-0 half-time lead.

Walsh and Kelly were unable to convert further chances after the break, but Town did manage to convert one and Corsi was awarded the goal after scrambling the ball over the line from an Eoghan Breathnach corner kick.
