NEW ROUTE FOR SLANE BYPASS
THE proposal for a multi-million euro new bypass of Slane will move up a step this Wednesday when the new route for the project will be revealed.
Meath CC say that a ‘Preferred Option Corridor’ for the N2 Slane Bypass has been identified and is detailed within the Options Selection Report (OSR). The OSR will be available for viewing or download, free of charge, on the N2 Slane Bypass website (www.n2slanebypass.ie) from Wednesday 27th May 2020.
The N2 route forms part of an important long-distance transport corridor between the Greater Dublin Area, the Hub town of Monaghan, Northern Ireland and County
Donegal, as well as carrying significant volumes of local traffic.
A previous planned bypass was refused permission, so in February 2017, Meath County Council appointed RPS Consulting Engineers to start afresh in the progression of the appraisal of traffic management alternatives and with the development of route options for a bypass of the village.
The huge tourist and historic importance of the area, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site ( WHS) of Brú na Bóinne, plays a huge part in the hopes for the project.
Those backing the bypass will feel the new route takes all those concerns into account.
The council add, ‘Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions and the HSE guidelines we are unable to display a copy of the OSR for viewing at Meath County Council offices. Therefore, in addition to publication on the website, the OSR can be purchased for a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy, after Wednesday 27th of May 2020 from Meath County Council, Buvinda House, Dublin Road, Navan, Co. Meath, C15 Y291. Email: transport@meathcoco.ie. Phone: 046 9097000. Please contact the Transportation Office in advance, to order a copy and arrange collection.’
