Tara takes her cookery lessons online for everyone

-

WHILST most restaurants and take-aways are offering some sort of collection or delivery service as a treat, for many people, the daily dilemma of what to cook and eat during lockdown continues.

Well, one award-winning chef has been on hand to offer expert help and guidance online for the past few weeks, with inexpensive and simple recipes anyone can cook.

Tara Walker runs the East Coast Cookery School, and will be known to many for her television appearances on programmes like Ireland AM.

And since she’s been locked down like the rest of us, she’s still been in front of the camera in her own kitchen.

“I have to have some sort of structure to the day, so since I haven’t been able to run my usual classes at the weekend, I started making cookery videos with my daughter Grace, who’s eight,” says Tara, who also normally runs children’s cookery camps. “Every night we try to cook a nice meal with the family, so I thought I might as well film them and share them with others – I’m a cooking tutor, it’s what I do!”

The videos are quick and easy step-by-step guides and Tara always tries to use local, fresh produce.

She also teamed up with the Drogheda Credit Unions to film some cooking videos for their customers too, and will soon start her proper courses online as well, with a new version for home-workers.

“The credit unions have been great and I’m just getting Zoom Cook-alongs off the ground, if companies would like something different for their staff working remotely,” she explains.

“Up to 30 people can join in, and it’s not only good to learn to cook something but is great for mindfullness and there can also be a competitive element, with a cookbook as a prize, if they send me a Whats App photo within a time limit.”

Full details of all Tara’s recipes and courses can be found on her East Coast Cookery School facebook page or Youtube.
