Drogheda Macra is keeping busy

-

DROGHEDA’S branch of Macra na Feirme, though not very long in existence, is extremely aotive and has embarked on a comprehensive winter programme, which should keep all the members busy, and happy, for the next few months.

The programme opened with a Debate, in the Gwent Arms, on the motion “Irish People are Egotistic.” The adjudicator was Mr. B. V.

Hoey, and on the team were Shay Lynch, Gerard Murphy, John Tuite, and Eamonn Delaney. We didn’t hear what the team’s conclusions were !

Drogheda also “fielded “a team, which included Kieran Crilly, John Little, Bernadette McGrane and Vincent Collier to travel to Slane to compete in the Public Speaking Competition. However, they were defeated by Navan, who now go forward to the finals.

The Club’s first annual dance was another function which proved very successful and enjoyable. Held in the Neptune Hotel, Bettystown,( it provided Sec. Miss Bernadette McGrane with an opportunity to present £220 to Mr. John Andrews, chairman of the Meath County Executive for the Freedom from Hunger Campaign. A presentation was also made that night to Mr. Ned Russell, in acknowledgment of his co-operation during the year.

A novel idea in Macra function is the introduction of Brains’ Trust sessions. At a recent gathering, Mrs. Trench, Slane, Mr. Joe Bruton, Dunboyne, Mr. Michael Donnelly, Drogheda and Mr. Vincent Hoey, Drogheda, sat on a panel, and, under the chairmanship of Mr. Ignatius Kerr, answered a wide. variety of questions which ranged from the succession problems in farming, to mini skirts. . The club plans to hold a discussion of mastitis and clean milk, in the Central Hotel, on Thursday, l!5th December and all interested are invited to attend.

Incidentally, anyone wishing to become a member of this branch of Macra are Invited to write to Andy Collier, at Parsons town, Clogherhead (telephone Clogherhead 14).
