BROADBAND A STEP CLOSER

The second phase of the Broadband fit-up has been completed at Teach Raithneach. All that remains is for the provider to complete the final phase. The One concern that has been voiced on a number of occasions with regards to the technology being used for the BCP initiative. It has been confirmed that the BCPs are not installing 5G antenna or access points. It will be WiFi similar to that used in people’s homes (hence the short 80m radius distance covered) and commercial wireless point-to-point connection­s that have been used in businesses and schools over the last 20 to 30 years.

CONDOLENCE­S TO DUNNE FAMILY

The sympathy of the whole parish and far beyond goes out to the Dunne Family Kellystown following the tragic death in an accident of 18-year-old Thomas. A fun-loving young man with a big smile, Thomas had a passion for all things farming, machinery and cars.

Relations, neighbours and friends lined the route as his remains were taken from the family home last Friday for his funeral Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Slane, where he had served as an alter boy some years ago. Fr Richard Matthews PP officiated at the funeral Mass and Thomas was then laid to rest beside his granddad Kevin in St Erc’s Cemetery. Thomas is survived by his parents, Theresa and Frank, sister Grainne and brother Kevin, grandmothe­r May and extended family.

Another reminder to everyone to continue to check on their elderly neighbours and the vulnerable during these uncertain times. Please consider giving them a call and offering help if they need anything especially groceries or medication. Remember to observe social distancing.

A new webcam has been installed at St Patrick’s Catholic Church and is now in operation for all services. On your computer or smart phone enter Watchmcnme­dia.tv and then tap the image of Slane. TENNIS COURT CLOSED

While some facilities have reopened, Monknewtow­n Tennis Courts will remain closed for the foreseeabl­e future. The committee who look after the facility feel that they are unable to comply with the strict government guidelines regarding monitoring of numbers on each court, social distancing etc, and thank people for their co-operation and understand­ing.

GOLF CLASSIC POSTPONED

Slane Community Centre Committee has announced that their annual Golf Classic fundraiser which was scheduled for May 29th has been postponed. The committee hope to be able to announce a new date in the coming weeks.

BLOTTO RESULTS

The numbers drawn in the Slane GFC weekly blotto were 7, 18, 23, 26. There was no jackpot winner and the spot prize winners were Eoin Feeley, Maura Finnegan, Marion Harding, Damien Marron. The jackpot is now €4450. You can play the blotto through the Clubforce app and in every week.

SLANE ASSESSMENT HUB

The HSE has opened a Community Assessment Hub in Slane at their Health Centre on Chapel Street. The hub will be for patients who have a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19 or symptoms of Covid-19. After an initial phone consultati­on with a GP, if it’s decided a patient needs face to face treatment they will be referred to the assessment hub. Patients can only access these hubs when referred by their GP. Once seen at the hub patients may either be asked to return home, to enter isolation or to attend an acute hospital. The assessment hub is staffed mostly by GPs but is supported by healthcare profession­als including nurses and physiother­apists as well as administra­tive support personnel. The assessment hub is open Mon - Fri, 9am-5pm. This may change or be extended based on demand and in consultati­on with local GPs. When you get to the hub please adhere to the clearlysig­ns that are in place.

VOLUNTEERS AVAILABLE

Slane GFC adult men’s team has volunteere­d to help those in the community who may need support during the Covid-19 pandemic. They are available and are more than willing to help with collection­s, delivery of groceries, messages, prescripti­ons or those who feel isolated and need someone to talk to. If you know anyone or you yourself require assistance they can be contacted through their facebook page or directly through adult team manager Eoin Feeley at 085 2853898. Rathkenny GFC are also offering similar support in theircommu­nity and they can be contacted through Ross on 087 1527023.

SLANE CAIRDE

The local Cairde and mealson-wheels are continuing their work in the area throughout the Covid-19 crisis. The meals-onwheels service continues, though in a slightly different format. For anyone who feels isolated or in need of help please contact Sean at 087 6783729 or Maria 086 3496888. Social distancing applies.

ROAD CLOSURE

Meath County Council has reschedule­d their temporary closure of the Slane Road, Navan (N51) from its junction with the R162/Flower Hill(Round O Roundabout) to the entrance of St Enda’s Villas/St Mary’s Park to facilitate the installati­on of a new trunk watermain by Irish Water. The closure has commenced and is continuous until 8pm Sunday, May 31st. Traffic approachin­g from the N51 Slane road will be required to divert on to the R163 at the Slane Castle entrance and travel via R16 from Kilberry to Navan. Traffic approachin­g from the Round O Roundabout will be required to divert via R162 Proudstown Road then travel via R163 from Kilberry to Slane. Diversion and informatio­n signage will be in place as will speeding restrictio­ns. Access for residents and property holders will be facilitate­d throughout the closure period.

SLANE SPINNERS

Slane Spinners Cycling Club are keeping their fingers crossed that their SOSAD Cycle which has been reschedule­d for Sunday, July 26th can go ahead. It was originally due to be held on April 26th.
