PARISH NEWS

Fr. Dooley & Fr. Caraher will celebrate Mass (without a congregation) for the intentions of parishioners. Mass will be offered each day for any intentions booked.

These are challenging times: each of us is struggling with our own individual circumstances: frontline work; reduced income; unemployment; anxiety; isolation; lack of routine; domestic tensions, and many other issues. Some parishioners are trying to facilitate other avenues of income for upkeep of the Parish; as we have no envelope income since Mass is being celebrated without a congregation. Parishioners, who wish to and are able to, might use one of the following: Standing order forms are available either in the porch of the church or we can post one to you if you message our Facebook page Mellifont Parish-Tullyallen.

The Parish have linked up with idonate to facilitate on-line donations. By clicking the link on our Facebook Page you will be brought to the Parish of Mellifont page where you will be given the opportunity to make a one-off OR regular donation to the Parish. The link is: https://www.idonate. ie/mellifontparish. Still others might wish to store up their envelopes for when ‘normal service’ resumes. Your support is gratefully appreciated these days.

The Church remains open daily at the moment from 9 am – 5 pm for quiet reflection and solitary prayer as we continue this Easter season. There are some small clean bottles of Holy Easter Water which have been carefully prepared in the church porch in a basket. We invite you to take a bottle for your household or for someone who is staying safe. Weekly bulletin is placed in church porch too.

During May we are promoting the age-old custom of the ‘May Altar’ in our homes.

We invite you to create a May Altar in your home as we celebrate the month of Mary.

It is hoped that this can be a prayer space for you and all families in their home in this month of May. Message us on our page with a photo of your May Altar from your home and we hope to upload them onto our Parish Facebook Page. Let’s celebrate Mary Our Mother in our homes together this May.

May Devotions Rosary, Exposition and Benediction will be streamed live each Sunday and Wednesday evening during the month of May from St Peter’s Church at 7.00pm, beginning today 3rd May. See St Peter’s Church webcam at www.saintpetersdrogheda.ie

CIARA’S JACK AND JILL FUNDRAISER

Well done to local girl Ciara Thornton who set up a fundraiser page on facebook. Ciara wrote on the page that she would like to make a difference with her fundraiser. The page was set up to raise funds for The Jack and Jill Children’s foundation in memory of Ciara’s cousin Warren Dowd Hughes. Ciara wrote “I’m inspired by the work of Jack&

Jill and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in 2K in May. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the ‘Donate’ button. The more people that know about Jack&Jill the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family” If you would like to donate, please click on https://www. justgiving.com/fundraising/ciaraor Alternatively contact Carol or Ciara Dowd and they could organize to collect your donation. Well done to Ciara and best of luck with the fundraising.

SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES

During these challenging times it is important that we have a look around at all the locals in our area and seeing if we can support them in their businesses.

Local man Bob Wogan operates a Hot Car Wash and Valeting service and is back up an running in the latest Phase of Ireland re-opening.

His business also offers a deep clean and Sanity system that is Eco friendly and doesn’t have any side effects or use any toxic chemical products which would be a very welcome service for many in our present climate. Bob (Darren) can be contacted on 086 731 1524 or contact him on Bob’s Hot Car Wash & Valeting page on facebook (DM: mme/171367771991442)

TULLYALLEN MEDICAL CENTRE HERE FOR ALL CONCERNS

Please don’t ignore your non-COVID health concerns, and contact The Medical Centre for advice. Whilst they have had to change how they do things, they now also offer phone and video consultations, which are partially/ fully reimbursed by some private health insurers, and as always, if they need to arrange an in-practice consultation, they can do that too. Stay safe everyone & know your health matters

BE KIND

A wise facebook post was doing the rounds during the week and it read “Businesses are now starting to open in the first phase as per the governments plan. If you go into a commercial premises and see some mistakes, don’t start recording or taking photos to later upload onto social media. Please speak to the owner. We all have to help each other. This is new for everyone and business owners will be trying their best to make it safe and get their business running again.

Let’s help each other throughout this transition”. We could all learn a thing or two from that paragraph.

TULLYALLEN PHARMACY

The pharmacy have been restocked with hand Sanitisers, Gloves, Face Masks, Soap, Wipes, Milton and Thermometers. Simply message them on facebook or Telephone on 041 983 7760 or email on tullyallenpharmacy@gmail.com. Leave a contact number and they will call you when it is ready. Payment can be taken over the phone and local delivery is being done.

They have a priority service for the over 60’s, carers of vulnerable people and the elderly. This means that between 9.30am and 10.30am these groups will have priority into the pharmacy for whatever they might need.

Also a reminder that they have a delivery service available for all over 60s, vulnerable or those isolating.

They would like to say Thank You to everyone who has been messaging in and pre-ordering toiletries and even prescriptions. This is very helpful in reducing congestion on the phone lines and minimising your waiting time in the pharmacy. Please continue to do so.

To Pre-order toiletries in a bid to reduce patient waiting time in the pharmacy and help you #stayathome and ultimately maximise the safety of our customers and staff we are adopting an online ordering system for all stock in the pharmacy. Please private message the pharmacy Facebook page with whatever items you might require, rather than phone so as to keep lines free for essential communication such as regarding prescriptions. Please provide a contact number. They can then give you a call once your order has been processed. They can take payment over the phone and local delivery is available thanks to support from local clubs @Slane GFC, @Glen Emmetts and @ Naomh Mairtin. Alternatively, you can call in and collect in person but again please be mindful that IF YOU ARE SELF-ISOLATING YOU SHOULD NOT BE OUT AND ABOUT! Other options include paying upon collection and again we would ask that you pay by contactless and respect the social distancing procedures we have in place.

SCHOOL BUS SUPPORT.

Local man Barry usher is appealing for all parents to help him and the many independent Bus Operators in our country by highlighting the importance of the Local Bus Operators to the people in Government. He, along with other independent Bus operators are asking the all the parents take a few moments to send an email to paschal.donoghue@oir.ie and Heather.humphries@oir.ie and Ministersoffice@dttas.gov.ie.

The Subject box should have Assistance for PRIVATE School Transport Operators and if you could word the email as follows: As a parent who uses our Local Private School Bus Operator, I wish to ask that assistance be put in place to help transport operators.

As a parent, I require the services of my local school bus operator to get my children to school. The fact that this essential service may cease due to lack of government assistance, would have a huge impact on our family life. Thank You” . It is just a short email but all parents if could do this, it just might highlight the plight of our school going children.

CENTRA DELIVERIES

Niall and the staff at Centra in the village know that some of the elderly in our community are staying at home as advised and that it might also be a little scary for some customers to go out and get their shopping. If you do not feel comfortable going into the shop, Centra in the village will deliver to your home with no delivery charge (no matter what the cost of your shopping is) Centra would not want to see anybody stuck and says that if you call 041 9830496 with your list they will organize to get your delivery to you. You can pay over the phone if you do not wish to have any contact with the delivery and your shopping can be dropped safely to your door.

THE EMMETS OFFER HELP IN THE COMMUNITY

There have been lots of people on social media offering to help the elderly or vulnerable or others in need of assistance in our parish by collecting groceries, fuel for the fire or prescriptions and the Glen Emmets in the heart of our village is no different.

If you need or know of anyone who needs a little help and is isolated, please contact Joey on 087-8339568 or Cariona on 086-3203675 or Jack on 0872316722
