White River Wheelers cycle to The Big Apple

WHITE River Wheelers cycling club on coming together while staying apart on the 20th June as they cycle the distance from Dunleer to New York in aid of the Third Floor Covid 19 Ward in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and IMNDA.

The group have pledged to collective­ly cycle 5000km and are asking the local community to show their support for this worthy cause by making a donation, no matter how large or small, through their Gofundme page.

The cycle, which has been named Pedal For Our Heroe’s’, will take place between 7am and 7pm with the riders covering the equivalent distance of cycling from Dunleer to New York to raise funds for the north east’s biggest hospital and the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Associatio­n (IMNDA).

The club said IMNDA is a charity close to their hearts as their founder and friend Paul Lannon has been living with Motor Neuron for the past nine years.

‘He is also responsibl­e for getting most of us up on bikes when he ran his D2K charity event each year for IMNDA and Paul’s fight for life,’ they said.

The club members will take part in their challenge of cycling the distance from Dunleer to New York collective­ly on June 20th between 7am and 7pm.

‘ The distance is 5000km and are goal is to raise €1 for each km so thats a total of €5000. We are raising it for 3rd floor covid 19 ward in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital , Drogheda,’ they said on their fundraisin­g page.

These front line workers have put all of us ahead of themselves so that they could care for people with covid 19 . They are our modern day super heroes . They leave their families daily and put themselves at risk . Please support us and donate and let us show them how grateful we are for everything they do. No donation is to small.’

So far the club has already raised over €1,000 of their €5,000 target.
