DROGHEDA Coastguard were involved in a dramatic rescue last week after six people, including three children, were found stranded on the rocks at Mornington beach.

The Coastguard pagers were activated shortly before 3pm on Monday, May 25th following reports of three children stranded on the rocks on the South Training Wall at Mornington Beach. The crew immediately launched the Drogheda Coast Guard boat and despatched a land crew who proceeded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the boat crew discovered that there were actually six casualties stuck on the rocks.

The members managed to rescue two of those involved from the rocks and transferred them to Clogherhead RNLI Life Boat.

They were then taken to the Fishmeal Pier to an awaiting ambulance.

The Drogheda Coast Guard boat returned to the rocks and extracted a further three casualties from the rocks while also bringing to safety a member of the public who had swam out to help.

A crew swap was done between Skerries RNLI and DCGB at this time as one of the Skerries life boat crew was a paramedic.

The casualties were then transferred to the Fishmeal Pier and treated by the National Ambulance Service.
