Anger as Fairy doors are stolen

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

THE brightly coloured fairy doors dotted around the scenic walks and woods in the village of Tullyallen have brightened up the daily walks of children and adults alike throughout the lockdown which is why locals have been appalled to see the doors steadily disappearing.

Residents are up in arms after dozens of the fairy doors, generously donated to the local community by The Irish Fairy Door Company, have been stolen in recent weeks.

The fairy doors had been a highlight for many living in the local area with lots of local children making their own doors to add to the collection, bringing hours of joy to families on their daily walk.

However, in recent weeks people have noticed a large number of the doors no longer in place and Tullyallen residents have been angered and disappointed to see them stolen.

Posting about the disappearance of the Fairy doors on the Tullyallen Village Facebook page, one local resident said. ‘Do we have a fairy thief? My family love to walk in King Williams Glen and spot the fairy doors and painted stones. We even made nine of our own and placed them along the walk about three weeks ago. However, we’ve noticed that the little fairy doors and colourful stones are all disappearing. It’s very disappointing for the children and its a mystery where they are all disappearing to.

I have told my own kids that there must be a fairy thief who is taking them because they are so pretty but I wonder is this fairy thief larger than 10 cm......... Its such a shame. Please leave these little treasures alone.’

Other residents said they had also noticed the fairy doors disappearing with children left heartbroken when the doors they carefully placed along the walk were taken.

Others revealed doors they had put the doors up out of reach and had even nailed or screwed them on but they were still removed.

Others branded the thefts ‘miserable’ and ‘selfish’ and said children had been left heartbroken and distraught to see the doors gone.
