A group of ladies, including a number of locals from Drogheda and East Meath, are attempting to break the world record for the largest Virtual Strip and Dip on June 6th.

For one year only Strip and Dip is going virtual with women all over the country asked to take a picture of themselves in the bath, shower, paddling pool or sea if it’s within their 5km radius, and upload it online in an attempt to break a second Guinness World Record.

This is the second world record attempt by the Strip and Dippers, a group of women who met on a Facebook page set up to support those going through treatment for cancer.

The charity event has been taking place annually for the past eight years and in 2018, some 2,505 women stripped off and entered the chilly waters off the Irish coast to raise money for charity Aoibhinns Pink Tie.

With Coronavirus restrictions still in place the group are doing things a little differently this year, attempting to smash the World’s Largest Virtual Dip - however, as the photos have to be uploaded online those taking part will be keeping their togs on!

The challenge is for all ladies to take a Virtual Dip – in their togs– even in groups of 4 - to raise funds for charity.

You have until 1pm to register and the photos must then be uploaded to the Facebook Event Page between 2pm and 3pm. All photos will be part of a big Online Mosaic as well as a picture of the Largest Virtual Dip.

The registration fee is €27.95 and all fees will go to charity.

‘With things being the way they are we can’t come together and dip so we are going for a second record and it’s for the most virtual dips uploaded online,’ said Louise Lamari, who lives in Balbriggan.

‘We’re from all over Ireland which is great. There are about ten of us from North County Dublin, Some in Drogheda and East Meath and some in the surrounding counties. We’re from everywhere,’ said Louise. I got involved through the Facebook page called ‘Kicking the Shite out of Cancer’, I was going through Cancer and Chemo at the time and it was a huge support to me.’

She said the women also went on to form a choir and perform on Ireland’s Got Talent and are now hoping they can break a second world record and raise lots of funds for a very worthy cause in the process.

‘People can do it in the bathtub, blow up pools, anywhere with water. There are four or five of us that live relatively close to one another so we will be social distancing on a beach. Others are doing hoses, buckets anything that constitutes a body of water. We have one hour to upload the pictures of the dippers and then hopefully we can break a second world record.’
