CONTACT ME

Given the times that we are now enduring, please feel free to share your thoughts, experiences and ideas on how you are coping or helping others to cope, through these most surreal, life changing times. Ok, we are all social media junkies at the moment, but the printed word, for posterity, will be a much better reference point when, please God, we are all trying to make sense of this time, in the years to come.

Below are some pieces that came to my mind, but your contribution, on how this epidemic is effecting your lives in Monasterboice would be most welcome.. We’ll keep them anonymous unless otherwise requested. Paddy Holdcroft on 0862039501 or paddyholdcroft @gmail.com.

TOO FAST???

“If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough”, to quote one of many great quotes from the Italian American racing car driver, Mario Andretti. These sentiments raced (Formula 1 style) through my mind when the seemingly hitherto, in control Leo Varadkar, announced that most of the country’s Coved19 related restrictions were about to be fast tracked in oblivion.

Varadkar, in my humble opinion, has handled this unprecedented crisis relatively well. Yes, they were many mistakes. There were the Italian Rugby fans who were let wander the streets of Dublin, despite their country being in the grip of the pandemic and their very real reason for being here, ie, the actual match, was cancelled the previous week. There was the Cheltenham revellers who were staking the biggest gambles of theirs, and our, lives. And, don’t even bring up the subject of the residential homes....

But, to Leo’s credit, this awful virus IS, literally, without president, and all decisions were taken on the hoof.

As, I said, relatively speaking, we are doing ok, on a steady as you go basis. It seems that, through a combination of public and potential coalition partners’ pressure, Leo has gone from being in control, to going a little too fast.

These awful, hideous deaths, followed by awful hideous funerals have been too much to take, and, please God, we don’t hit a speed bump down the road. Let this much talked about “second wave” will be us all waving this wretched virus goodbye.

PARISH NOTES FROM FR PADDY...

Trocaire have asked people to donate online instead of sending in boxes (no parish is going to be able to take them/count them for a couple of months, I suspect). See Trocaire.org for info. Understandably people are probably facing all kinds of financial hardship - so while our parish is not encouraging any ‘giving’ at this time, many people have asked about how to give...

So, out BIC & IBAN is published on the bulletin (available in both churches and Mulroy’s shop and Tenure stores), if people want to donate online (use either name or bulletin number as reference).

Also Armagh Archdiocese has set up an online system for all parishes - at Diocesan Level - detail will be in this week’s bulletin and posted on Social media in coming weeks!

Mass will be broadcast each Saturday night at 630pm from Fieldstown Church, and night prayer at 10om on the Parish Facebook Page!

Fr. Paddy & Parish Pastoral Council send best wishes to all parishioners - and if anyone needs anything, do get in touch (you can publish my mobile, and the parish email is monasterboiceparish2018@gmail.com
