Parking ‘madness’ outside school

- By HUBERT MURPHY

UNTIL the Board of Management widen the entrance area at Donacarney school, there will be serious issues with parking and traffic at key times.

That’s the view of Meath CC who say they are aware of issues and have spoken to the schools about it.

The road safety officer went to the school and spoke about widening the exit.

However, works have not been carried out.

‘Until that is done it won’t get any better,’ engineer Christy Clarke stated. He said the safety officer would talk to the school again about the issue.

Cllr Sharon Tolan raised the matter at the area council meeting, stating that the parking outside Realt na Mara is ‘madness’ and that the council needed to talk to the school about a drop off zone.

‘It’s very dangerous getting across the road. We have to come up with a traffic management plan,’ she stated. ‘ The principals and board of management are not experts on traffic management.’

She said there was also an issue at the educational campus in Bettystown and a temporary turning measure was needed.

She said the primary school had a supervision system and parents were not being encouraged to come onto the premises.
