CONTACT DETAILS

Now that we entering the autumn of 2020 and the evenings are closing in, it was always at this time of the year when community, social, sporting, charitable and recreational groups, socities, associations and organisations returned to indoor activities after their well-earned break over the preceding summer months. However, due to the current restrictions as an ongoing consequence of the Covid-19 Corona Virus, few if any of such activities are resuming and the likelihood of anything changing sooner rather than later is pretty slim. If your club, community group, organisation, charity, etc. wish to avail of announcements or inclusions of your activities, or to be more precise, the lack of them, you can contact Brendan Matthews at 01-8413033, mobile 086-2260158 or by e mail to bm5953459@gmail.com

DOG FOULING

With some really great weather of late as we head into the autumn, many people are taking advantage of it by getting out onto the rural roads for that

extra walk before the cold days set in. Many are taking their dogs along for the walk with them as well. The problem here is that, on numerous occasions, some people are taking along small, plastic bags with them and when the dog does his `business` along the grass verge of the country road, their owner collects the dog-poo up into the plastic bag and then disperses with it into the beautiful hedgerow, or in other instances, they throw it along-side the verge of the road! What`s the point ! What is being created here is an unsightly and unhygienic mess; dog droppings placed into a plastic bag and then pegged onto the hedgerow. These are Not the correct bags to be using; they are cheap, ordinary, plastic bags that will never decay, but will hang, suspended in a lovely hedgerow and there they will stay; because it`s plastic !

KNOW YOUR PARISH

The following article appeared in the Regional Press on Saturday March 8th 1930. `A young boy who was attending sheep between Gormanston and Ben Head, near Drogheda, yesterday, met a riderless horse and some few minutes later he discovered a young woman lying in an unconscious state on the sand dunes. The boy ran to the nearest house to summon help and the unconscious woman was then recognised to be Mrs. Henry Jameson of nearby Delvin Lodge in Gormanstown. Mrs. Jameson was removed from the sand dunes to her home and it was then discovered that she had sustained a broken leg in the fall from her horse and she was removed to a hospital in Dublin for further treatment. It was surmised that Mrs. Jameson, who is a member of the Louth Hunt, was out taking a morning canter along the sand dunes at Gormanstown when her horse stumbled and threw her heavily to the ground`.
