Fay at double in win on the road

QUAY CELTIC TERMONFECKIN CELTIC

ADAM Fay’s late strike secured three more valuable points for Termonfeckin Celtic as they stunned the defending Dundalk Under-16 League champions Quay Celtic on their own patch last Thursday evening.

This was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, but Termonfeckin, who were still buzzing following their great win over Dromin United the previous week, took the lead on 10 minutes thanks to a quality 18-yard strike from Fay.

There were good chances created at both ends after that, but the away side’s back four dug deep and soaked up the pressure well.

Eventually, though, with 10 minutes remaining Quay Celtic finally broke through for what was a deserved equaliser.

With the momentum now in their favour, Quay might have been fancied to go on and snatch a late winner, but instead it was Termonfeckin who lifted their heads and a Tadhg Gallagher cross was met by Fay who netted with a back-post header, sparking jubilant celebrations.

Incidentally, the previous week’s big win over Dromin featured goals from Sean O’Driscoll (hat-trick), Cillian McCormack, Conor Bird, Tadhg Gallagher and Darragh Dorian.

In their first year playing in this high-standard league, Termonfeckin have clearly served notice that they have not entered just to make up the numbers!
