Loving Life Choir penning own song for latest project

- By ALISON COMYN

JUST when you thought the boys and girls of the Loving Life Choir, couldn’t get any more talented, they announce their next exciting project, to write their very own song!

Drogheda’s award-winning children’s choral group, the Loving Life Choir, is delighted to receive a much-needed funding boost from the Housing Finance Agency, Social Investment Fund for their latest project ‘Write A Song’

‘ The coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns have been a very strange time for everyone, so what better way to share our thoughts and feelings about our experiences than through music,’ says choir founder Ken O’Heiligh. ‘With just over 30 members, the Loving Life Choir celebrated our recent YouTube release of its first official recording titled “What About Us”, and we wish to acknowledge the huge contribution made by Martina Berrill and Sophie Branigan for coordinating vocals, overseeing the backing track and recording and mixing’.

Boosted by that success, now together, with help from talented musicians and performers Sara Louisa Nolan and Bryan Mullen, they will write the lyrics and music for their own, original song.

‘ To get started, we will get to know what songs inspire the Choir members and what type of music they like,’ adds Ken, whose own son Darragh is a talented musician. ‘ Then we will work together to create the song lyrics and listen to different types of rhythms, musical chords and instruments, before selecting our favourites’.

Musical Director, Sara Louisa is a musical performer and teacher who has appeared in cabaret, musical theatre, rock ‘n roll, choral. She has written and taught musical arrangements that have been performed in prestigious theatres such as The Helix and has directed shows including Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Oliver and The Wizard of Oz. Sara Louisa is the Head of Vocal Studies at The College of Dance in Ireland.

Composer Bryan Mullen is a very talented musician, who plays the piano and works with musical theatre productions, choirs and bands. He has performed with artists including The Script and has worked with choirs including The High Hopes Choir and The Choir of Ages. He has performed at the Three Arena, National Concert Hall and Olympia Theatre.

‘Sara Louisa and Bryan will then take the Choir’s ideas into the studio, finalise the vocal lines, arrange the music and programme a backing track,’ adds Ken. ‘ Then finally, we record our new song’!

Just last July, the Loving Life Choir released their uplifting version of Pink’s ‘What About us’ to date, it has received almost 2,000 views on Youtube.

This was the first online project for the award-winning Drogheda youth choir, and it is accompanied on Youtube by a beautifully shot video by Martin Connolly Media.

You can still hear the choir’s song on Youtube ‘What about us’ Loving Life Choir.
