Welcome for school warden at Tullyallen

-

LOUTH County Council has appointed a School Crossing Warden for Tullyallen National School on foot of a request by Drogheda Rural Cllr Michelle Hall.

Cllr Hall had a motion at Drogheda’s District Council meeting in January 2020 for traffic calming measures at the large primary school situated on Main Street in Tullyallen.

Recent speed and traffic counts measured speeds in excess of 50kph from over 70% of vehicular traffic along the straight stretch of road outside the school.

‘As funding for traffic calming roadworks would only become available in 2021, I requested that a School Crossing Warden be appointed to Tullyallen N.S. in the short term. The speed findings were a stark warning, and one child had already been injured crossing the road last year,’ she told the Drogheda Independent.

‘ There had been a countywide search for school wardens and I insisted that Tullyallen NS be included in the appointments. I am delighted that there is finally some action to ensure the safety of students doing an everyday task such as walking to their school.’

Cllr Hall says that the Garda Commissioner now has to approve the appointment and Louth County Council engineers will provide signage and road markings at the presence of the new crossing.

The School Warden will be present for two shifts each day and should commence in the next few weeks.
