Offica - from Skiddibop to teaming up with KSI
OVER the coming years and hopefully when things settle down and performing artists can get back to work fully, watch out - or better still, listen out for a wonderful young performer.
He goes by the name of Offica nd basically his love is creating music.
He has racked up millions of views on his social media channels and the world is very much his oyster.
He is also part of the Drogheda collective, A92, young men with the aim of making it big on the international stage too.
But firstly, a Q&A with Offca.
How did the name Offica come about?
The name Offica came when I started music, my friends just started calling me Offica so I stuck with it.
Who were your early inspirations?
I get my inspiration from many different people like an American Artist called Polo G he talks about the real things in life and many people can relate to it
When did you start writing?
I started writing music in 6th year I was just bored and I started writing. Funny how things work out.
You’ve said hip-hop and afrobeat were you first love - how did drill come into the picture?
There was a time in the Irish urban scene where drill was just absolutely loved, so I jumped on a drill beat and I did something different that no one else had done. Very soon you’ll probably hear more Afrobeat from me.
How did ‘Skiddibop’ come about?
SKIDDIBOP was just a dance me and friends started doing when we made our first song “No hook” featuring BT (trap boy). The fans loved it and till this day when I see the kids in Drogheda they just start doing the Skiddibop.
Naruto Drillings launched you. Why was it so popular?
I guess people just really liked the mask in Naruto, I know I did. Also the song was a good song and the beat by kidspyral was good too.
What was it like meeting KSI?
KSI is a sound guy, it didn’t even feel like I was
meeting a millionaire. Till this day we still constantly talk to each other, he’s become a good friend of mine.
You wore a mask for a while and then did the ‘face reveal’ - what was the idea behind this concept?
I wanted people to know the real me, Face Reveal was a track that I felt I had to do. It also made me a little bit famous around the town.
How you performed many live gigs?
Yeah, I’ve performed a few shows, unfortunately, I didn’t get to perform many after the virus but 2021 maybe you’ll see me at Longitude.
Some of your lyrics talk about Drogheda. Is the town an inspiration to you?
I love my town, the people in it have always been very good to me and I’m very appreciative of the support I get from the Town. Yes, this town is a big inspiration to me.
What about the A92 - what does the future hold for them?
To be honest the A92 got a lot of talented rappers and I think they have a few projects themselves coming up.
There is a new EP on the way - what can we expect?
Yeah, very soon I’ll be announcing something special for everyone.
