Square United’s superior team work, moulded over the past few seasons, could well guide them to the Meath League Division I title according to Stackallen’s boss Mickey Burke the former Abbey Celtic and Boyne Rovers supremo.

“We have no control on where the league goes now because it’s in Square’s hands but we will fight on”, he stated.

But even if the Stacks can’t manage to retain their crown the sides performance has delighted the boss who arrived just a week before the start of he’s been tremendous for us this season”, Mickey stated. He also paid tribute to Pat Reilly, last years B team keeper. “He was full ol enthusiasm at the start of the season and came in for Jojo Murphy and did brilliantly”.

Victory in Sunday’s cup quarter final against Kentstown will leave Stacks with a splendid chance of lifting the trophy as Mickey revealed. “They are a team you have to beat when you get the chance as I know from my Abbey Celtic days when they pipped us for the League after two replays”.

“They got a goal from nothing to force this replay but if we got over them I feel we are strong enough to win the competition”.

An indifferent start as players got to know each other left Stacks struggling before they hit a purple patch and an the season.

‘I thought it would just be a case of taking on a few players and improving the team but 1 fould we had just four players from lat year’s team and we were lucky to pick up players who were the type we required”, he continued.

His star signing has undoubtedly been John Reilly and the Boyne Rovers man, present captain, could yet play a key part in Stack’s drive for the Meath Challenge Cup in which they play Kentstown.
